Josh Tedeku, star of Boarders, has shared his experience on filming the much-anticipated second season of the acclaimed BBC drama, now ready to stream. Just a year after the show's debut made noise with outstanding critiques, all six episodes of the new run are up for grabs on iPlayer. The narrative spins around five Black, inner-city youths—Jaheim Marsham (played by Tedeku), Leah Dulverton (Jodie Campbell), Omar Palmer-Grace (Myles Kamwendo), Femi Adebeyo (Aruna Jalloh), and Toby Staithes (Sekou Diaby)—who land scholarships at the elite St Gilbert's boarding school.
Their arrival causes quite the commotion, stirring up tensions among their peers and school staff alike. The initial season saw them settling in, but just as they find stable ground, the second batch of episodes flips their world upside down—this time under the watchful eye of headmistress Carol Watlington-Geese (Niky Wardley) who seems determined to see them off the premises. Despite these heightened tensions, the series doesn't skimp on humour.
Reflecting on his favourite moments, Tedeku reminisced about one scene brimming with comedic energy: "My favourite moment has to be shooting a scene with Mohammed Mansaray who plays Malachi and Zheng Xi Yong who plays Xiang," he said. "Where we were improvising an argument where we were just hammering each other with insults", reports Bristol Live. “The insults we used against each other were so ridiculous and funny – we were all dying of laughter that day!".
Throughout the first season, Jaheim formed a new bond with his roommate Xiang, while his best mate from back home, Malachi, is embroiled in local crime. As Jaheim's two worlds begin to clash, it leads to a heated argument that still managed to spark laughter on set. Giving a sneak peek into what's next, Tedeku said: "He's going through a lot. He's got issues with his family, people at school to deal with and then Carol, the new headmistress, who is now his biggest enemy.
"So all in all, it's a lot for Jaheim. How does he deal with it all? You'll have to tune in to find out!" He then highlighted one of his favourite new elements of the second season. "I'm excited for people to see the blossoming of Jaheim and Toby's relationship," the actor revealed. "It was really fun to build on that this series.". Fans and critics are still buzzing about Boarders now that the follow-up season has been released, making it a must-watch new drama for your evening TV line-up.
