This week's Call the Midwife episode welcomed back Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte), who had travelled across the globe to Jamaica and to visit his estranged wife Lucille (Leonie Elliott). After fleeing Popla, fans were left in suspense over Cyril's budding romance with Rosalind Clifford. However, he has since made a dramatic return but with some incredibly sad news to share. In a conversation with Mrs Wallace, he confided: "Lucille asked me for a divorce, she doesn't wish to return to London, and I do not wish to live in Jamaica.".

This came as a huge blow to viewers who have followed their entire relationship from season eight, when the loved-up pair finally agreed to go on their first date. Fans were also totally invested as the witnessed them both say "I do" during the 2021 Christmas special. Since tying the knot, Lucille and Cyril have hit a number of relationship stumbling blocks, including a tragic miscarriage that saw her then flee London's East End for a new life in the Caribbean.

The move to Jamaica was never meant to be permanent, Lucille was only supposed to be venturing off for a short time to gather her thoughts after suffering a miscarriage. Much to viewers surprise, the choice to return home appears to be more concrete than we'd all been led to believe. According to the newly returned pastor, Lucille has now landed herself a new dream job on a maternity ward and has extended her stay in the country.

With Cyril returning alone and evidently not wanting to relocate, it looks as though it could be the end of their marriage and quite possibly Lucille's time on the programme too. Mrs Wallace was desperate to determine if there was some way to salvage their marriage, asking Cyril: "Is there not a compromise you can reach?" Without a moment's hesitation, he told her: "I'm afraid not.". Being a pastor, Cyril voiced his concerns that he was worried his job would now be in jeopardy if news of his divorce surfaced but Mrs Wallace was having none of it.

She reassured: "Don't worry about what other people will judge to be right or wrong. You can only do as you judge, in your heart.". Meanwhile as the episode wrapped up fans over on the social media platform X were totally divided on Lucille and Cyril's marriage breakdown. One person praised: "Lucille is currently living her best life. living in Jamaica with her family, has got a job and is divorcing her annoying husband.".

Another agreed: "CYRIL AND LUCILLE ARE DIVORCING. FINALLY. Now we can has Rosalind and Cyril," as a third realised: "Sad that Lucille won't back #callthemidwife.". Other viewers were sad about the situation, commenting: "I'm sorry they've done all this to Lucille's character #CallTheMidwife," and "NOOOO LUCILLE AND CYRIL WERE PERFECT TOGETHER #callthemidwife.". Call The Midwife returns to BBC One on Sunday from 8pm.
