Coronation Street aired some shocking scenes this evening - as fans fear a double exit. This evening, horrified viewers watched on as the Platts house burst into flames. David Platt had angered Harvey Gaskell over the money from his criminal funds and Sarah was left worried that them all being together for her birthday could cause more trouble. David made his excuses about not attending the party and headed off to try and earn some cash with the help of his former inmate and friend. Toyah Battersby, meanwhile, headed to the house to tell the kids to leave as Sam was also there.

Abi later arrived at the house and confronted Toyah for calling social services on her. A war of words took place between the pair, with Abi suffering a panic attack. When Toyah tried to help, Abi hit her, leaving her unconscious. Things then went from bad to worse when someone threw a lit rag through the letterbox, leaving the house in flames - with Toyah unable to escape. Nick ran into the house to save her, with Shona and Max also going in to try and save anyone in there.

Lily was safe - but both Toyah and Max were seemingly in trouble as the credits rolled. Will both of them be ok?. We know that Max will be making an exit from the Cobbles after actor Paddy Bever told us about his departure. He shared to The Mirror: "After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way. It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.".

When the news broke of the fire, fans were left convinced who might have started the fire. One theorised: "David told Sarah, Shona and Max about burning the house down for insurance and then had the secret meeting with the thug. We are meant to believe David set up the fire himself, just had someone else start it. At the point David said maybe he wasn't joking. Max had a look on his face like he could see the benefits of the idea.

"It left me wondering if the fire starter will actually be Max, who then by some twist of soap fate gets injured or worse in his own fire. I know Paddy is leaving, but I could see him surviving, with burn scars, and deciding to live away from the street for a bit. That way any death would be a "shock" because we all suspect it will be Max who dies.". Could Max be to blame for the fire - and end up dying it? Only time will tell.
