Gavin and Stacey enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement for the show's much-awaited Christmas comeback, but cast member Mathew Horne had a terrifying experience back in 2018. The actor, 46, famed for his role as Gavin Shipman, was struck by a train while heading to his parents' place after a night at the pub. On 20 December 2018, the star had a narrow escape when he was grazed by an East Midlands Trains service in Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire. Miraculously, he walked away from the harrowing event with barely a scratch.

After leaving The Nelson pub, Mathew encountered the train. At the time, the pub's duty manager relayed to The Sun: "It was a really, really unfortunate accident and it could have been a lot worse. We are all glad that it wasn't.". "He was obviously very shaken up but he's all right now. He's got a bit of a scratch on him but no underlying issue there whatsoever. Mathew is a regular customer of ours. I can say that everybody was quite spirited that night and it's a genuine mishap on his part.".

"We know Mathew well. We were just making sure that he was OK, as we would with any customer. Mathew wasn't taken to hospital. The police had to be called just because of the nature of the incident. But they were just glad that he wasn't harmed.". The East Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed to the media that their team, complete with paramedics and a doctor, attended the scene, but thankfully, the individual involved did not require hospitalisation. British Transport Police also provided details, with a spokesperson stating at that time: "The incident was reported to police at 22:37pm and is being treated as non-suspicious.".
