Horror film The Ugly Stepsister is off to a flying start after launching with a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes review - but fans will still be in store for some disappointment. Having taken the Sundance Film Festival by storm, director Emilie Blichfeldt wowed critics' with her movie debut introducing her take on the very grotesque version of the classic Disney princess tale Cinderella.

As of today, Emille's film scored an impressive rating of 96% from 24 reviews and given the hyper-graphic lengths of gore, having followed the original Cinderella story by the Brothers Grimm, we're not surprised it's already a hit among critics. The story follows the unachievable beauty standards posed upon females and while the Norwegian tale is set in the medieval times, it's message has a rather relatable modern feel too.

Film goers will be disappointed to learn that it'll be some time yet before it is launched with the films release currently scheduled for March, kicking off in Norway first but later available for streaming on the popular horror platform Shudder - who have achieved distributions rights for the UK, North America, Australia and New Zealand.

Viewers will follow main character Elvira, played by Lea Myren, the titular stepsister, who will literally stop at nothing when it comes to attaining beauty, all in a bid to capture the attention of the prince. Inspiration was taken from the Brothers Grimm version of the fairytale, that saw princess' totally mutilate their feet to ensure the mysterious and famed slipper would fit.
