The second season of an award-winning British comedy will be available to stream for free from next month. Super-powered sitcom Extraordinary will be included in ITVX's library from March 6. It is already available as part of paid-for subscription with Disney+ but will soon be made readily available at no extra cost. This should hopefully allow it to find even more fans and viewers than before. While the first season was previously made available on ITVX, at the time of writing, it does not appear in the results when searching for the title. However, the broadcaster says that it will be a full series boxset next month so the hope is that it will be included along with the follow up instalment.
The show is set in a world that sees everyone develop a superpower at the age of 18. Well, almost everyone, as the series focuses on Jen who is yet to unlock her ability, if she has one, after six painful years of waiting. Each episode sees her struggle on, wondering if she will ever find her place in the super-powered world. Following surprise revelations at the climax of series one, the second series picks up with Jen and her friends poised for their best attempts at being proper adults. Jen finally enrols at a special clinic promising to find her power. She is embarking on a proper relationship and they’re trying their best at going steady, but not without hiccups.
Having searched long and hard for his old life, Jizzlord’s past finally catches up with him. The new couple also struggle to find space for their relationship in the fallout of Carrie and Kash’s breakup who are still living in the flat together, trying to be super mature and dignified but are learning the hard way that the “clean break” might just be a myth. Both series one and two boast a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes while it picked up Best Comedy Programme at the 2023 Broadcast Digital Awards. It has gained many fans along the way who have posted about their love for the show. One, compared it to another superpowered show, saying: "I love the Misfits vibe of this show. Showing that superpowers are not always wonderful.".
Another said: "One of the best new shows I've seen - binged season 1 and 2 in less than a 3 days. I highly recommend this amazing British scifi-comedy." While a third added: "Extraordinary perfectly balances humour and heartfelt moments seamlessly, making it easy to fall in love with every character individually and the group as a whole.". Many were hopeful of more episodes being made and one person claimed: "Incredible comedy! Absolutely love this show and its characters. Don't think I've fallen in love and laughed at a show this much in a long time. I recommend to anyone and everyone, it's a much watch.".
Unfortunately, this will be the final episodes they can enjoy of the series. Despite all its critical success, Variety reports that the show will not return for a third outing. It went on to say that the UK original production was cancelled along with series Shardlake. Extraordinary is streaming now on Disney+ and from March 6 on ITVX.
