The Apprentice star Karren Brady has been in the boardroom for 15 years, working as Lord Sugar’s trusted adviser when it comes to finding the winning candidates. Season 19 is set to begin this week with 18 new candidates ready to prove that they have what it takes to win the staggering £250,000 investment for their business as well as mentorship from Lord Sugar himself.

For the next 12 weeks, BBC fans will see the entrepreneurs be put through their paces in a series of business-focussed tasks with the group dwindling every week until the grand finale in April. The self-made billionaire won’t be making the decisions alone though with his trusted advisers Baroness Karren Brady and Tim Campbell MBE on hand to figure out who should be fired.

And with the start of season 19 fast approaching, here’s everything there is to know about Baroness Brady when she isn’t in the boardroom. Born in Edmonton in April 1969, Karren and her older brother Darren were brought up by Terry and Rita Brady with the entrepreneur sharing that they gave her “self-esteem and confidence”.

She told The Guardian: “My Irish father, Terry, was a self-made millionaire, who owned a printing business. He showed me that nothing compensates for hard work. "My Italian mum, Rita, was a housewife. They both came from large families. We were an incredibly close family because we knew we could trust them and vice versa.
