The Feathers Hotel, an 18th-century building brimming with history, is nestled in the charming Oxfordshire town of Woodstock, right under the shadow of Blenheim Palace. Recently refurbished, it now boasts a top-notch restaurant, chic bedrooms and a team of super-friendly staff.

The original character of the building has been lovingly preserved, featuring low doorways, a labyrinth of staircases and a subdued colour palette. The suites are particularly impressive, complete with roll-top baths, stone fireplaces and canopy-draped beds. It's the perfect spot for those seeking a touch of luxury, with excellent pubs and fine dining just a stone's throw away.

Eating at The Feathers is a treat, with the Nest restaurant serving up a classic British menu that's executed flawlessly, beautifully presented and packed with local produce. During our visit, every dish was as tasty as the last – even the sides. My partner, a vegetarian who often finds the options at upscale restaurants lacking, declared his celeriac linguine and heap of cheese-topped gnocchi to be the highlight of the weekend, outshining even the more famous establishments in the area.

Guests can kick off or wrap up their evening at The Aviary bar, which features comfy lounge seating, a central log burner and a tasty cocktail menu. There's also a charming courtyard at the back with fire heaters and pots brimming with aromatic herbs and flowers, which is likely a hit when the weather turns warm, reports OK!.
