Mark Labbett has lashed out at The Chase bosses claiming they keep 'benching him' - despite him getting questions right. The 59-year-old, who is known as 'The Beast' on the popular ITV game show, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to vent his 'frustrations'. He moaned: "Why I get frustrated about #Beatthechasers. I get five right first game and then promptly benched for next three games. Supersub I guess," followed by a sad face emoji.
One fan pointed out it was to make the game fairer for the contestants. They wrote back: "The clue's in the show name Mark, gotta give the punters a chance. I don't think people would watch 'lose against the chasers'.". Another viewer said: "I do think the producer’s choice is dodgy. It doesn’t look fair. Surely it should be evenly spread, same as the Eggheads were." A third added: "I think more contestants should take on a minimum of five chasers. There's always possibilities.".
When a fourth asked: "Is the selection random?" To which Mark replied: "No. Producers' choice.". Mark joined the popular quiz show since it burst onto our screens in 2009. He is one of six chasers: The Vixen Jenny Ryan, Governess Anne Hegerty, Sinnerman Paul Sinha, The Dark Destroyer Shaun Wallace and Darragh 'The Menace' Ennis.
Hosted by Bradley Walsh, it sees four contestants working together as a team to answer the questions to ty and 'beat the chaser' and win the prize money. Once weighing 29 stone, Mark recently dropped 10 stone after his marriage to ex-wife Katie ended in 2020. He then started dating TV host Hayley Palmer. But the pair split up in May this year - and Mark seemingly took a swipe at his ex by revealing he and Katie would only consider a divorce if either of them "get with someone serious.".
