Mohamed Salah demanded his Liverpool team-mates improve their defending despite the Reds battering Tottenham. Salah scored twice to help Arne Slot's side claim a 6-3 win over Spurs on Sunday evening. It means the Reds are now four points clear at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand over second-place Chelsea, heading into Christmas.
His second goal sent Liverpool 5-1 up, but strikes from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke handed Spurs a faint glimmer of hope in the final 20 minutes. Those goals meant that the scoreline did not reflect the visitors' utter dominance. That made it a frustrating evening for Salah despite his goals. The Egyptian demanded his side improve at the back, despite their title charge marching on.
"We worked quite good upfront but defensively we need to improve as a team. Conceding three goals is quite hard. But it's a good result. We expected [chaos] the way they play, they open the game," he told Sky Sports. "They enjoy their football, physically tough and mentally we always have to be in the game. They have the way they play, they don't change it much. You see other teams come here and struggle.
"I’m happy we won because they play an intense game. It’s great to achieve that [fourth all-time Liverpool scorer] at such a big club, but the most important thing is that we won the game. Wherever I am going to end my career I am happy about it.".
