A MONEY-minded mum has shared her thrifty hack for keeping warm at home in the evenings - without cranking up the heating. Sharing her "genius moment", she transforms her normal sofa into a heated seat, which she claims costs her just 2p an hour to run.

If you get your hands on a heated blanket, you can do the same. She says: "Basically, I've put this on the sofa and I've put it like you've got in your car. "Now I've got my own heated seat in the lounge and I can keep the heating off - and this is costing me just 1p to 2p an hour.".

She simply threw her heated blanket over her sofa and neatly tucked it in around the edges. Then she showed herself getting comfy and switching the blanket on underneath her. Thanks to the blanket keeping her snug, she had no need to turn her heating up - saving money on her energy bills.

And there will be loads of people looking for ways to reduce their energy consumption, thanks to the latest hike in price. Viewers flooded the comments with praise. "Great idea," someone said. Laura Court-Jones, Small Business Editor at Bionic shared her tips.

1. Turn your heating down by one degree. You probably won't even notice this tiny temperature difference, but what you will notice is a saving on your energy bills as a result. Just taking your thermostat down a notch is a quick way to start saving fast. This one small action only takes seconds to carry out and could potentially slash your heating bills by £171.70.

2. Switch appliances and lights off. It sounds simple, but fully turning off appliances and lights that are not in use can reduce your energy bills, especially in winter. Turning off lights and appliances when they are not in use, can save you up to £20 a year on your energy bills.
