Residents in one southern town have mocked their town’s Christmas lights for a very peculiar reason. The town of Fleet, in Hampshire, has recently been ‘brightened’ as their annual Christmas lights were put up by the council. But there’s just one problem this year – they look like knickers.

Stephen Kellett said: "If they're not meant to look like underpants what were they intending them to look like? "I really can't see anything other than underpants." Matt added: "It?s like a magic eye, once you see it." Michele Anne Chambers said: "I mean yes they do look like underwear. "I'm not bothered about it though." They were spotted in Fleet, Hampshire. Darren Wilson joked: "All we are saying is give Fleet some pants." Town pen pushers saw the funny side of it, as reported by?What's The Jam. A Fleet Town Council spokesperson said: "This wasn?t quite what we had in mind. ?But whether you see them as pants, lanterns or simply modern lighting we?re delighted to hear our streetlights are sparking joy, conversation and unexpected humour in the community. "Our goal has always been to brighten Fleet High Street and create a welcoming environment. "It?s wonderful to know they?re bringing a smile to your night and day. "Thank you for sharing your thoughts and observations. We value your feedback and the light-hearted moments it brings to our neighbourhood." ENDS]

The decorations, which light up the town’s high street, have been widely mocked on social media due to their weird resemblance to women’s underwear. One local even described the decorations as looking like ‘knickers on a washing line.’. Stephen Kellett commented on Facebook: ‘If they’re not meant to look like underpants what are they intending them to look like? I really can’t see anything other than underpants.’.

Michele Anne Chambers added: ‘I mean yes they do look like underwear. I’m not bothered about it though.’. And Darren Wilson joked: ‘All we are saying is give Fleet some pants.’. The local council had originally hoped that the dazzling lights would resemble lanterns.

Funnily enough though, council bosses took no offence to the mockery. A Fleet Town Council spokesperson said: ‘This wasn’t quite what we had in mind. ‘But whether you see them as pants, lanterns or simply modern lighting we’re delighted to hear our streetlights are sparking joy, conversation and unexpected humour in the community.
