Plymouth Argyle have appointed Miron Muslic as their new head coach, with the 42-year-old replacing former boss Wayne Rooney. Rooney was axed by Plymouth last month following a 2-0 to Oxford with the club rock bottom of the Championship and four points from safety. Plymouth have now tasked Muslic with keeping them up, having appointed the former Cercle Brugge boss on a three-and-a-half year deal.
"Miron had a clear vision of how he wanted to take Argyle forward and showed a depth of tactical awareness that made it clear exactly how he wanted the team to set up and play," chairman Simon Hallett said. "He comes with glowing reviews from his time at Cercle Brugge where he took a team from a lowly league position to European football which is no mean feat. I want to welcome him to the club and look forward to seeing him have an immediate impact on the team.".
Muslic's appointment has divided fans, many of whom were calling for former boss Steven Schumacher to return to the club, with one writing: "Tbh I would have preferred Schuey back but looking at this fella’s track record its pretty impressive but I guess beggars can’t be choosers. Defo another gamble from the board but hopefully this one pays off".
Another wrote: "Can’t lie, I wanted the romanticism of Steven Schumacher’s return and thought it would unite the club. That being said, if we take Schuey out of the equation, I am far more excited about this appointment than any of the other names that were linked. Time will tell!".
