You've heard of Brighton, but have you ever heard of New Brighton? Situated at the northeastern tip of the Wirral peninsula, this seaside resort is home to the UK's longest promenade, stretches of golden sandy beaches, and an iconic lighthouse built back in 1830.
Around 283 miles away from the Brighton down south we all know and love, New Brighton is just a stone's throw from Liverpool - making it ideal for holidaymakers not wanting to spend a gruelling five hours in the car for some sand and candy floss. While good weather can never be guaranteed in both Brightons, New Brighton is a great place to build sandcastles and have a cheeky paddle when the sun makes its rare appearance.
There's also the bustling Victorian Quarter which is filled with independent bars, coffee shops, vintage stores, restaurants and even a street art trail that will satisfy any Instagram addict. Finish your day off at the beach at the Floral Pavillion - Wirral's largest theatre for a spot of comedy, kids shows, and pantomime!.
It's no wonder that travel experts over at Rough Guides recently listed New Brighton as one of the top 30 seaside resorts in the UK, hailing the town as a 'place of pilgrimiage' for photography fans due to the work of Martin Parr, who shot his iconic series The Last Resort in the area. "New Brighton has undergone a £60 million refurbishment in recent times, with new restaurants and bars, and the coast on the other side of the Wirral peninsula (a 25-minute drive) is a pretty day-trip," the pros said. "While you're there, try West Kirby, cute Thurstaston beach and eerie Parkgate.".
