Ruben Amorim's tirade at his Manchester United stars - which saw a TV smashed inside the dressing room - could have been a deliberate attempt to shock the dressing room, it has been claimed. The 39-year-old Portuguese coach lost his rag in his post-match assessment of his team. Amorim labelled his side 'maybe the worst team in United's history' during his press conference after the 3-1 loss.

The Red Devils boss vented at his squad immediately following the game at Old Trafford. Reports claim that Amorim damaged a television, which is used to illustrate tactics before kick-off and at half-time, as he furiously demonstrated his point. Amorim's emotional response, it has been claimed, could have been a calculated move by the coach to shock the players, according to the Athletic. The former Sporting CP boss usually remains quiet following a match and consults with his coaching staff and video analysts before speaking to his team at the club's Carrington training ground.

Amorim has expressed his frustration with United losing their tactical discipline late in the game as, despite being 15 matches into his tenure, he sees players unable to take his methods on board for 90 minutes. The television is reported to have been collateral as the United head coach delivered an angry assessment. The players are said to have remained seated and taken his feedback on board.

While Amorim was clearly frustrated in both the dressing room and his post-match interviews, he still took time to greet supporters following the defeat and signed autographs. The damaged television will be repaired in time for the Red Devils' Europa League clash with Rangers on Thursday it is said.
