'Shaking' tattoo optical illusion leaves people with 'headache' – can you see why?

Whether it's for entertainment purposes or boosting brain health, optical illusions can be fun. Regular brainteasers are a great way to understand how the brain and eyes work together, as well as boost mental agility. Daily puzzles can also help you think analytically and solve problems by encouraging you to look at situations in a different way.
Now if you want to put your brain to work, see if you can understand what's going on in this image. The picture, which was shared on Reddit under the u/damnthatsinteresting forum, reveals a standard tattoo on someone's arm. In the caption, it read: "Static tattoo with 'shaking' effect." The picture shows the inking which reads: "Void", but there's something rather head-spinning about it the more you glance at it.
The post garnered 182,000 likes and 5,000 comments since it was shared last week. One said: "I love and hate it at the same time." Another added: "Yeah, I'm curious how it looks at angles. Right now it just hurts my brain. Well done.". Someone else posted: "The fact I feel like I'm having a seizure looking at this. 10 out of 10." A fourth commented: "The hate and respect I have for this tattoo is crazy right now.".
Then a fifth wrote: "It's a brilliantly eye-catching design, it clashes in a way that I can't even say it's a bad tattoo, the artist really knows their stuff. That said, what a horrible thing to look at, focusing on it is like a headache waiting to happen.".
