Bank of Dave star Jo Hartley is set to appear as a guest star on this week's episode of Silent Witness as the detective drama continues on BBC One. Vanishing Point, which unfolds over two episodes, sees Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) board a flight from Mumbai back to the UK after a conference, only to discover that there is a mysterious contagion spreading among the passengers.
Jo Hartley guest stars as Beth, an A&E staff nurse on the flight who helps Nikki with the affected patience at 30,000 feet. While many fans will recognise Jo, 52, from her roles in Netflix's After Life, ITV drama Passenger and in 2016 film Eddie the Eagle, few may recognise her for one of her breakout roles - that of Cynthia in This Is England.
One of Jo's first film roles was Cynthia - the mother of protagonist Shaun Fields (Thomas Turgoose) - in the 2006 film This is England. She reprised the character in all three spin-offs series on Channel 4 : This Is England '86, This Is England '88 and This Is England '90.
In the franchise, Jo looks completely unrecognisable as Cynthia as she dons a big brunette perm, classic '80s glasses and a blue jacket with thick shoulder pads. The star acted alongside the likes of Stephen Graham, Joe Gilgun, Vicky McClure and Jack O'Connell in the award-winning film, all of whom went onto find acting success.
In the last few years, Jo has starred in a number of well-loved shows and films - including biographical comedy-drama Bank of Dave, which is based on the real story of self-made millionaire Dave Fishwick. Jo plays the role of Dave's wife Nicola in both the original film and its recent sequel Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger.
