Following the tense final episode of the current series of The Traitors on Friday 24 January, fans have taken to social media to call for a change to the show’s endgame. The tense last portion of the show had players Alexander, Frankie, Leanne and Jake gathered around the firepit after they had uncovered Traitor Charlotte. The four remaining players did not know they were all Faithfuls, and they had to each decide whether to vote for another banishment, or hope all Traitors had been eliminated. The rules of the game meant that if any Traitor remained, they would take all of the prize pot, whereas if there were only Faithfuls left, they got to split the prize.
All four players voted for another banishment, with Alexander being the first to be voted out. Then they decided to banish again, and Frankie was also chosen to leave. That left Leanne and Jake as the winners, and they divided £94,600 between them. They also learned that they had banished two fellow Faithfuls. Some fans even pointed out online that the banishments could have been decided out of greed, so that the money was divided between two players instead of four.
Fans have pointed out that this is a major flaw in the game, as Faithfuls are actually incentivised to keep voting people out so there are less people in the game to share the cash. One wrote: “The more people who get kicked out, the bigger slice of the pie each contestant gets when they win. The game could be improved by either cutting the prize fune every time a Faithful gets evicted, or by having a prize fund for each player rather than for the whole team.”.
