The nail-biting conclusion to the BBC ’s hit show The Traitors has broken a major record for the national broadcaster. The third season came to a thrilling end on Friday night and seems to have been worth the chaos as the final episode attracted a whopping audience that was 1.6million larger than last year’s season finale.

The BBC revealed the final episode, presented by Claudia Winkleman, was watched live by an “average audience of 7.4million on Friday night”, making it the most watched episode of the show ever. Meanwhile, a further 4.8million people tuned into the aftershow, The Traitors: Uncloaked, which aired straight after the finale.

Meanwhile, The Traitors winners Leanne Quigley and Jake Brown both required support and therapy to help them keep the show's secrets for months. The pair, both Faithfuls, were crowned the winners in Friday's final, which unlocked the massive £94,600 prize money, but before then, they had to not speak about their experience and the final outcome.

The BBC show was filmed in the spring, so there were many months when they could not reveal any details of their time in the Traitors castle. Speaking to The Sunday Times, Leanne and Jake admitted that they required help from the show's welfare team and therapy to ensure the secrets were not let out of the bag.

Speaking about the past months, Jake said: "It was filmed back in the springtime so it's been a long time to keep it quiet. It's been really difficult. I mean, I was paranoid in my head because before the show even came on, I kept thinking people were looking at me, but obviously at that point no one knew who I was.".
