Describing what happened in the moments leading up the tragedy, his dad Paul Murray told WCVB: "He was skiing on a trail that was well within his ability. He was wearing his helmet and safety gear. Just kind of a one-in-a-million accident that, unfortunately, cut his life too short.".
Jack played trombone and drums for his school band in in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and his family have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Chapman Middle School's band in lieu of flowers or gifts. A letter to parents from Chapman Principal Jenny Dolan said counsellors would be available to all pupils.
The "exceptional" 12-year-old was also remembered by his dad as a budding entrepreneur who enjoyed playing football and was a keen young artist. An obituary shared online read: "Jack is the most magical little boy and was on his way to becoming a truly exceptional man. His positivity and laughter are infectious. He is a loving and patient person who always sees the best in people. Jack is compassionate, empathetic and gives the best hugs. Jack is the greatest child a parent could ask for, and we are all better people for having known him.".
