TV's The Traitors has had a series first for its third season, with presenter Claudia Winkleman crowning three female traitors for the first time ever. BBC viewers watched as three women were selected to be traitors in the first episode of the new season today (New Year's Day). Financial investigator Armani, retired opera singer Linda and call centre manager Minah were handpicked by Claudia and show bosses to be the traitors this season.
Speaking in an interview, Claudia explained what made her choose these three for the illusive traitors position. She said: "We talk to all of them in the library, and I’m just the smallest voice in the room but we decide, having had those chats, who it’s going to be. And I loved picking these three.".
Last series became male dominated with the finale seeing no women left, so choosing three women could be seen as a 'statement'. Claudia added: "There is a bit of that yes… I had faith. They felt like the right three. Whatever happens, it was the right thing to do.".
In series two, Traitors Harry Clark and Paul Gorton added more men to their ranks, with Claudia making a pointed comment. She said: "Another man, good, it’s like the olden days." Yet speaking after the series, Claudia shared that she did wonder if she should have made the comment and hinted at sexism, as she explained: "Maybe I shouldn’t have done but I just had to say it. I was like ‘Come on, boys, what you need here is a really smart woman’, but they were threatened by them.".
