Escape to the Country host Nicki Chapman was utterly gobsmacked during her recent visit to a couple who had snapped up their idyllic home on the show six years prior. In the latest episode of I Escaped to the Country, which aired on Monday (January 6), Nicki retraced her steps back to Somerset, where she caught up with Sarah, a retired designer, and her husband Martin, who manages a chemical firm.
Back then, the duo had fallen head over heels for a quaint 19th-century thatched cottage, with Sarah being moved to tears at the first glimpse of the "utterly charming" abode. Outside their dream home, an excited Martin exclaimed: "I'm like a young child on Christmas morning about to rip open the paper and see what's inside.".
Echoing his excitement, Sarah enthused: "It's so amazing. It's just everything," reports Somerset Live. The barn, which underwent conversion in 1999, boasts roots stretching back to the 1800s and was listed at £495,000. Eventually, they took the plunge and put in an offer, which was joyfully accepted.
Fast forward six years, and Nicki is back visiting the pair, only to be utterly speechless within moments of stepping into their transformed residence. Overwhelmed by the changes, the TV presenter could only muster, "Wow, I'm Speechless. This is wonderful.".
Sarah showed her around, pointing out: "This was the garden room, and that was two separate utility areas with the wall. We did say we wanted a kitchen diner.". To which an impressed Nicki responded, "You've certainly got that." Relaxing in the garden where their journey began in June 2018, Nicki eagerly delved into discovering the couple's adventures since their paths last crossed.
