During Monday's Good Morning Britain, Susanna Reid took a moment to celebrate her colleague Ed Balls' latest triumph off-screen. Amidst the show's usual agenda, with guests Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire reviewing top news, Susanna gleefully announced: "Finally before we go. A huge congratulations to Ed Balls for winning these fantastic awards at the Political Podcast Awards 2025 interview of the year. The People's Choice Award.".
Ed Balls himself shared details about his accolade with viewers, pointing out that this particular award was special as it was the only category determined by public vote. Susanna chiming in, adding: "A huge well done.". Intrigued, Andrew asked which interview had earned the prize for Ed. He revealed it was none other than his discussion with Michael Gove on Brexit, joking about how they droned on for an impressive hour and a half.
Susanna also mentioned Ed doesn't take on the Political Currency podcast solo; he partners up with George Osborne, reports the Manchester Evening News. To this, Kevin quipped: "People can listen and they can hate one of both! That's the joy of it!" The quip sparked laughter amongst the panel, but Susanna was quick to ensure the positivity remained untarnished, asserting: "No hate on this programme!".
Proudly bagging the award last week, the Political Currency podcast's Twitter subsequently posted a thank-you video featuring both Ed and George, appreciating their supporters' votes, with the tweet echoing their elation: "What a night! Double celebrations at the #PoliticalPodcastAwards. Thanks to everyone who voted for us.". In a joyful video, Ed is captured gripping their newly won accolade, excitedly announcing: "We've just won awards at the Political Podcast of the Year Awards. In fact, we didn't just win one.".
Following a dramatic pause, George, his podcast partner, pops up with the second trophy. Ed then exclaims with delight: "Two! Can you believe it. Not only interview of the year for Michael Gove but also the people's choice.". George chimed in with a heartfelt: "Thank you for voting for us! It's been a while since we won an election.". Sharing a laugh, Ed expressed their surprise at the victory, adding: "I was not expecting it at all, so thank you very much.".
They rounded off their post by encouraging fans to stay tuned into their podcast. Followers were quick to congratulate them on the social media platform, with one listener commenting: "Well done, you both deserved it." Another added: "Congratulations.". One particularly enthusiastic tweet read: "Bl***y fantastic work! Well done guys! Who would have thought two blokes from completely opposite ends of the political spectrum would get on so well? Marvellous.".
