Bare-knuckle hardman Dorian Darch says a punch he ducked caused more damage than bombs from Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois. Photos of Darch’s left ear went viral last August after it was sliced in half during a BYB bare-knuckle boxing match. The Welshman ditched his gloves after a 25-fight boxing career that included losses to heavyweight titans Joshua and current IBF heavyweight champion Dubois.

Both hit Darch with some heavy blows, but neither damaged him the way Volodymyr Skurtu did during their bare-knuckle punch-up at BYB’s Cardiff Brawl show. “It was just a freak accident,” said Darch, who returns to the trigon (the triangular-shaped ring used in the BYB promotion) for BYB 36: Cardiff Brawl II at the city’s Vale Arena on Saturday, February 1.

“He threw a punch and I made him miss – for a change! I don’t duck many. I’ve watched it over and over again and you can see his wrist brushing my ear and the wrapping around his wrist sliced it open. “I didn’t realise what had happened when the referee stopped the fight. I looked down and saw my chest covered in blood, but didn’t know where it had come from.

“I didn’t feel a thing and I could have carried on fighting. I had dropped him and was winning the fight and I was fuming when it was stopped, but I guess it didn’t look too good.”. Darch says the ear is as good as new as he prepares to return to action against fellow heavyweight Gaz Slator. He added: “The doctor at the venue was brilliant.
