This year, the likes of Elton John, James Bay and Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be taking to the stage for the annual Royal Variety Performance. His Majesty King Charles III was watching the spectacular unfold as Amanda Holden and Alan Carr host the evening.

Speaking about hosting the annual event, Alan Carr said: “I am completely thrilled to be asked back to host the Royal Variety Performance so soon, what a compliment and an honour!. "To be able to host this magical evening with my best friend and tv wife Amanda Holden is the icing on the cake for me. If we have half as much fun as we did three years ago, well we are all in for a real treat.”.

During the show ITV viewers were treated to an exclusive medley from Cameron Mackintosh’s production of the much-loved musical Oliver!. However, as the performance unfolded, people were quick to complain about the same thing. As the compilation went on, many believed there were too many songs performed, with some fans believing there wasn't much point in seeing the production.

Taking to Twitter, one person said: "#RoyalVarietyPerformance We didn't ask to see the whole bl**dy Oliver show." Another commented: "No point paying to see Oliver now #RoyalVarietyPerformance.". Someone else tweeted: "Feels like this Oliver Twist play has been going on for 4 hours. #RoyalVarietyPerformance." One person wrote: "No need to go to the theatre now!! #Oliver #RoyalVarietyPerformance.".
