Jeremy Clarkson has released a "non-advent calendar" for £85 just days after opening up about his financial struggles. The product featuring Jeremy's Hawkstone beer brand promises a crate bulging with 25 days' supply of lager, cider, and gifts to lighten up what he calls the bleakest month.
The Diddly Squat farm maestro wants to inject a bit of cheer, and perhaps give his own finances a boost in the process. He explained: "Past the age of nine advent calendars lose their appeal somewhat, but not this one. This is the Hawkstone advent calendar and behind the little door on each day of the month there is a delicious bottle of beer and cider.".
The product was initially offered as a more conventional advent calendar back in November, but quite a few potential punters were put off by the price. One social media user wrote: "Just saying to the Mrs to get us one, be like £40 I reckon...nope £85 never mind.".
Meanwhile, another put it bluntly: "£85, £3.40 a bottle, he's definitely ripping people off now.". Intriguingly, the product's release comes after Jeremy opened up about his financial woes. Speaking to The Sunday Times, he said: "Behind the scenes, then, everything is a total disaster. But the fact is that when you go there you just wouldn't know.".
The TV presenter's Diddly Squat Farm scraped by with only a £150 profit in its first year, while his pub in the Cotswolds, The Farmer's Dog, is said to be faring even "worse.". Adding to the headache is a series of thefts, with Clarkson adding: "The theft, for example, is extraordinary. People seem to have it in their heads that if they come in for a pint, they are entitled to go home with the glass in which it was served.
