A new heap of games for PS Plus Essential subscribers is set to touch down right as the new year starts, and players are hoping that the strong streak that Sony has been holding with its game drops will continue into 2025. It’s almost a new year, and with that comes a whole new batch of opportunities for PlayStation to wow its PS Plus subscribers with new and exciting titles. Subscribers know the deal by now – on Extra and Premium tiers, they’ll get heaps of new games to play, with the Extra and Premium December 2024 drop offering AAA titles like Sonic Frontiers and Forspoken, and even the lowest tier of subscription offers new games too. The PS Plus Essential December 2024 drop brought with it It Takes Two and Aliens: Dark Descent, as well as a heap of PS Plus bonus surprises like the arrival of the entire Sly trilogy and a Space Marine 2 game trial, and players have begun to wonder what could be coming as part of the first PS Plus Essential drop of 2025.

The PS Plus Essential January 2025 games reveal time is set for 4.30pm GMT / 11.30am EST / 8.30am PST on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Sony usually reveals PS Plus Essential games on the last Wednesday of the previous month to drop on the first Tuesday of the new month; unless the dates get a bit messy like this month. If they were revealed last Wednesday, the games would drop in December, so we occasionally see this delay to ensure that the PS Plus Essential games go live on the first Tuesday of their month.
