Saving money and holidays abroad don’t usually go hand in hand, but thankfully Europe is blessed with a number of budget destinations. Travel advice service ABTA has named Hungary one of the top 10 destinations for tourists in 2025, and the capital of Budapest is a great place to spend a few days, with no shortage of activities to keep you busy. A visit to the imposing Hungarian Parliament, with its neo-Gothic architecture, should be top of your list (be sure to book in advance as tickets sell out quickly), while Buda Castle and St Stephen’s Basilica are also well worth a visit.

Later, you can relax with an evening river cruise along the Danube River, which separates the Buda part of the city from Pest, or take a dip in the Szechenyi Budapest, one of the largest spa baths in Europe.
